About the Project

This Working Carers and Employers e-Learning site has been developed by Gateshead Carers in collaboration with Northumbria School of Design.

Gateshead Carers Association is a dedicated charity that aims to make a significant difference in the lives of unpaid adult carers’ living or working in the borough of Gateshead.  We provide personalised carer support, confidential advice and information alongside practical and emotional support, but we are also taking on some additional work to provide support to employers. We would like to ensure that employers and line managers are familiar with legislation in relation to carers and are aware of simple methods of supporting carers in the workplace.

The aim of this free Carers Awareness e-Learning course is to raise awareness and increase your knowledge and understanding of the nature of the caring role. We hope this free resource will be of great value to you, whether you are

– an employer, HR professional, line manager
– a carer who is currently combining work and care or looking to enter or re-enter the workforce
– an employee who may become a carer in the future or who want to learn more about your colleagues who are carers.

We wanted to create an easily accessible, flexible and cost effective learning site for you to use at your own pace, time and location. In addition to the written materials, you will find videos, templates, self-assessments forms, case studies, links to online resources, recommended reading and relevant research. At the end of your learning you can test your knowledge by taking the quiz.

We hope that you will find the learning interesting and enjoyable and would love to know what you think of the site and how we could improve it.
